Painting is an expression of one's feelings. It can take you to another place at another time. Art comes from your heart, mind and soul. I hope you will enjoy reading My Diary of a Painter. I write periodically so I hope you will visit often My desire is for you to feel and experience the inspiration that is all around you.
The Sky is Exploding
Tonight the sky is exploding...
Sunbursts of beautiful color.
The sounds of firecrackers and loud booms
surround our little town.
It is the night before the
Fourth of July.
The American flag is proudly flying
up and down our streets.
The Red, White and Blue
is strutting around wreaths,
banners, floral arrangements, in gardens ready for
festive picnics, gatherings and parades.
I could not wait to paint,
an Eagle, a Minute Man,
The American Flag.
Red, White, and Blue,
anything Federal.
That's what we called it.
This was the most popular painting subject
of the time...
early 1960's.
Anything Americana.
Our homes were decorated with
tin ware, chests, trunks,
sconces, trays, and
antiques.
All waiting to be painted.
That's how my painting began...
with an Eagle,
and all the Federal designs
I could get
into our little home.
How would we put the Red, White and Blue
together today?
Maybe a blue granite bowl of apples,
A White Ironstone pitcher
full of White Hydrangeas,
with a filler of blackberries
and a few small red berry accents,
White roses on a white washed board
entwined with 3 ribbons...all different wideths.
One red, one white, and one blue.
This list could get long.
I am just getting started.
Just from the sound of firecrackers...
this painter is ready to create
the Americana of 2008,
